NIGHT OUT?

After a few delicious cocktails at the Lab, you’re probably in the mood for some fine food – luckily La Salle à Manger is just a few blocks away.

La Salle à Manger restaurant perfectly encapsulates the very best of what Montreal has to offer: rustic yet beautifully prepared food that is both comforting and creative. It’s a wonderful place to enjoy a delightful meal while nibbling on your neighbour’s plate!

The menu has something for everyone: there are freshly marinated entrees of both the hot and cold variety as well as main dishes featuring the latest trends in meat and fish. There’s even a small vegetarian section for those that are interested. Keep in mind that the desserts are generous in portion size and absolutely delicious, so it’s best to leave a little bit of room for a sweet ending!

Eating at the bar is highly recommended, the service is both friendly and efficient, and the menu is refreshingly original. The wine menu has been divided according to the characteristics of each bottle and the selections of alcohol are both studied and of a very high quality. Enjoy an aged calvados as a digestif or opt for a Michel Couvreur whisky …

Bulldog Gin

OUR MUSTS

Bulldog Gin

This month, we are turning our attentions upon Bulldog Gin. Created in London and launched in New York in 2007, Bulldog Gin has completely revolutionized the gin market thanks to the original design of its bottle and its unique taste.

The brand’s name is based upon the year it was created (2006), which according to the Chinese calendar, is the year of the dog. The bottle is in the shape of a Chinese urn – small, stout, black and sombre, with an enlarged neck featuring a studded collar. It’s an eye-catching detail that perfectly represents what is hidden in the bottle.

Bulldog Gin is not necessarily a gin that will change the mind of a vodka drinker. It has been made for gin-lovers, who will then be able to seduce those who aren’t fans of the alcohol thanks to their rave reviews. This is a genuine gin, replete with a variety of flavours that cannot be found in any other alcohol. It is a gin that can single-handedly redefine the martini.

This complex gin is infused with 12 distinct botanicals including lavender, cassia bark, poppy seed, lotus flower and a hint of dragon eye – an exotic fruit similar to the litchi.

Bulldog Gin has been distilled four times in order to obtain an unequalled purity and complexity. Rich and fruity, Bulldog is a gin that seduces thanks to its gentle character and enticing aromas. Enjoy it in a cocktail, on the rocks or straight up.

THE LAB’S COCKTAIL SUGGESTION

This month we are featuring “LES BLEUETS”, a recipe that could have come straight from the lac St-Jean region. This unusual cocktail is perfect for sipping on hot days by the pool. It can be served as a martini or as a frozen drink. Make sure to consumer with moderation!

les Bleuets LES BLEUETS

- 2 oz of St-Raphaël red
- 2 oz of Boiron pear purée
- ½ oz of lavender syrup
- 1 quarter of a lime

To make this as a frozen drink, place all the ingredients in a blender. Add the juice from a quarter of a lime and some ice cubes. Blend on maximum speed for five seconds and then pour the mixture into a long tumbler style glass or a chilled Hurricane glass. Decorate with a skewer of blueberries and enjoy!
