OUR "MUST"

Cachaca LeblonCachaça Leblon

This month, our attention is drawn to a cane sugar-based alcohol that recently arrived in the SAQ. Cachaça Leblon, is produced in Patos de Minas in the heart of the Minas Gerais region of Brazil. This high-quality cachaça has won several gold medals at the renowned San Francisco World Spirit competition. Gilles Merlet, a French celebrity distiller from the Cognac region in France, brought this Cachaça to a whole new level. His French touch transformed the Patos De Minas distillery into the state-of-the-art Maison Leblon. The secret lies in a combination of traditional approaches combined with creative European wine-making techniques. Gilles only produces small quantities of his eau de vie in copper stills. The product is then refined in XO Cognac casks for an ultra-smooth taste. The eau de vies are then cross-blended to create the complexity, body and aroma that turns Cachaça Leblon into a prestige product.

COCKTAIL SUGGESTION

This month we are profiling our “Minuit Extreme” martini, a short drink that is perfect for the end of a meal – as always it should be consumed with moderation.

Minuit Extreme

  • 1 ½ oz Minuit Café Crème
  • ½ oz vanilla vodka
  • 1 cold expresso
  • Vanilla sugar

Making this cocktail requires a Boston shaker. Pour the Minuit Café Crème, the vanilla vodka and the cold expresso into the metallic part of your shaker. Add ice, cover shaker and shake vigorously for 8 to 10 seconds. Serve the mixture in a martini glass (preferably chilled) rimmed with vanilla sugar. Enjoy!
